City of Ballarat crossover permit basics.
Any new or widened vehicle crossover (the 4–6m strip from your kerb to your boundary) needs a permit. The fee in 2026 is around $260 plus a $1,500 refundable bond the council holds until they’ve inspected and approved the crossover after pour. We lodge the permit, pay the bond on your behalf, and reclaim it on completion. The whole permit cycle takes 15–20 business days at City of Ballarat, slightly faster at Golden Plains Shire.
