New build, new driveway, every block.

Lucas is built on what was paddock until 2014. Stockland’s release schedule rolls out 50–100 lots a year, and the most common scenario we see is: builder (Henley, Metricon, Burbank, Coral, Simonds) finishes the house and the driveway is owner-supplied as part of the post-handover landscaping budget. Most Lucas homes get the driveway poured in the first 6 months after handover. The estate covenant typically requires the driveway to be done within 12 months.

Reactive clay across the whole estate.

The ground under Lucas is highly reactive Newer Volcanic clay — the same stuff that runs west across Mount Cole. Seasonal swell can move 30–50mm between wet winter and dry summer. An unreinforced 100mm slab on a thin base will crack in two seasons. We treat every Lucas driveway as a Class M (moderately reactive) site as standard: SL92 mesh on bar chairs, 100mm Class 3 crushed-rock base compacted in 50mm lifts, control joints every 3m.

Estate covenant compliance.

Stockland’s design guidelines for Lucas require the driveway to be of a “decorative finish” — plain broom is generally not approved. That means coloured, stencilled or exposed aggregate. The most popular Lucas finish in 2026 is exposed aggregate with Castlemaine slate or basalt mix, which complements the dark Colorbond rooflines and modern facades. We’ve done versions of this on Macbeth Drive, Ophelia Way, Hamlet Court and Cordelia Walk.
